Margaret Selkirk – Artist Bio
Margaret Selkirk was born in Scotland in 1944, and
moved with her family to Vancouver Island in 1945. Having shown interest
in art since she was a child, she is a self-taught artist. While young
she was immersed in the rich beauty of dense coastal rainforests and
soaring mountain peaks. As an adult, she’s spent much of her life
walking, hiking, or camping all over Vancouver Island.
Marg loves to share with others her
connection to nature through painting. She hopes that others will feel
the same spiritual peace, tranquility, and inner joy that she
experiences when walking through the high country. (She only paints
places she’s visited, except when doing commissioned paintings.)
Marg paints detailed realistic oil
paintings of dense forests, majestic mountains, tranquil lakes and misty
oceans. She paints with oils, which dry slowly, thus allowing her to
capture, in minute detail, the light and life of the nature that she
re-experiences while painting. “It’s not so much the end result of my
painting that matters to me. It’s the feeling I get while painting, that
I love.”
Married, with three grown daughters,
Marg currently resides with her husband, Frank, in Fanny Bay.
